Statement of Need
The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) has been around since 2013 and has evolved through different phases since its enactment. In 2023, the enhanced security requirements are going into effect, altering some of the existing compliance requirements and adding new ones not currently in place. These new requirements are complex and require pharmacies to add new practices and acquire additional software and hardware to ensure ongoing compliance and the continued safety of the drug supply in the United States.
Learning Objectives
- Describe the Goal of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act and how it will protect patients and the US supply chain.
- Review the current four aspects (Authorized Trading Partners, Product Identifiers, Product Tracing, and Verification) of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act.
- Discuss upcoming 11/27/2023 Electronic Drug Distribution Security requirements.
